Invitation - Talk on Annihilation of Caste and the Legacy of B.R. Ambedkar

Annihilation of Caste and the Legacy of B.R. Ambedkar

Dear Friends and Comrades,
It would be purely tautological to claim that caste is a reality that permeates all aspects of Indian social and economic life in different ways. Working class dalits in Indian society form what Giorgio Agamben has called ‘homo sacer’. The recent decades have witnessed horrendous anti-dalit atrocities with virtual impunity as the perpetrators have often gone scot-free. The cases of decades-old Bathani Tola massacre as well as the recent Bhagana incident are particularly illustrative of this fact. Despite the ‘affirmative action’ (though an extremely flawed one), almost 91 percent of dalit population still lives on the socio-economic fringes of the society and forms a considerable part of the rural and urban working class population of India. As the government jobs have been decreasing for almost two decades now (even before, the growth rate of government jobs was feeble at best), the question of this ‘affirmative action’ has been rendered even more irrelevant and cries for thinking ‘beyond the wall’.

The Third Seminar of 'Polemic' on 'Global Economic Crisis and the Resistible Rise of Fascism and Right-wing Politics' in Kalina Campus, Mumbai University

Polemic organised its third seminar on the subject ' Global Economic Crisis and the Resistible Rise of Fascism and Right-wing Politics' on March 13, 2015 in Mumbai University. A number of teachers, students and political activists participated in the seminar. Political activist and editor of workers' monthly 'Bigul', Abhinav Sinha, Dr. Rajan Padwal and trade union leader Shashikant Sonavane were the speakers. Dr. Rajan Padwal, a teacher of economics spoke on the dynamics Modi's rise to power and the socio-economic character of his voters. Consequently, Shashikant Sonavane from ICTU talked about the challenges posed by the Sangha Parivar and the need to wage a resolute struggle against its fascist politics.
Abhinav Sinha began his talk by discussing the recent events in India as well as other parts of the world which clearly demonstrate the rise of Right-wing politics and Fascism. The incidents like the assassination of comrade Govind Pansare, the controlled communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and other parts of the country, the hatred campaign led by the RSS and its allies to fan communal tensions throughout the country are alluding to the strategy of the Sangha Parivar; this strategy allows Modi to use big and hollow words about secularism on the one hand, while on the other, allow the Hindutva brigade to carry on its work unhindered.

Invitation for seminar on “Global Economic Crisis and the Resistible Rise of Fascism and Right-wing Politics”

Seminar on “Global Economic Crisis and the Resistible Rise of Fascism and Right-wing Politics”
Friends,
Recently, the gruesome murder of Govind Pansare and before that the assassination of Narendra Dobhalkar in Maharashtra, the attempts to harrass Teesta Settelwad who has been fighting for the rights of the victims of Gujarat communal fascist genocide of 2002, the planned attempts to fan communal tensions through vicious campaigns of “Love Jihad” and “Ghar Wapsi” have once again put this question on the agenda of history: What has led to the rise of communal Fascist politics and other brands of extreme right-wing fundamentalist politics? Is this rise irresistible? If not, what are the ways to fight it? These are cardinal questions that time has presented before us. And we can safely assume that the future of our society rests on the answers that we are going to give.

Polemic and Bigul organised talk by Suzanne Adely on 'Revolution and Counter-Revolution'

30th July, 2013, Delhi. ‘Polemic’ and ‘Bigul Mazdoor Dasta’ jointly organized a talk ‘Revolution and Counter- Revolution’ in Egypt, by noted American Labour activist and Anti-imperialist and Palestine Solidarity activist, Suzanne Adely at Hindi Bhawan today. Ms. Adely is also an Arab American community organizer and has been observing the Arab spring from close quarters. The talk focused mainly on the social and political movements which had been brewing in the Arab World, and especially Egypt since early 2011. In her one hour long address, Ms. Adely not only highlighted the positives that these movements generated but also pointed out the limitations and challenges they faced. She also gave a brief analysis of the various workers groups that had been and still are active in the Egyptian movement. However, being largely spontaneous and lacking an organized leadership and well thought-out strategy, these movements are fast losing their steam. The recent crackdown on Morsi supporters by the military was also discussed. Ms. Adely talked about the role US imperialism has been playing to suppress all the progressive movements taking place everywhere in the world. She also discussed how the ruling class of Egypt is just not dependent on US for its technology and capital investment but tactically allies with other imperialist forces also. The talk was followed by a question-answer session in which the audiences participated enthusiastically. Ms. Adely who is also active in worker’s struggles taking place in India, answered all the questions patiently. Abhinav Sinha asked whether there are any revolutionary groups active in political landscape of Egypt which can actually lead the struggle to which she replied negatively. Ajay Swami from Bigul Mazdoor Dasta asked Suzanne about her experience in Maruti Suzuki workers' struggle as she has seen the movement from rise to its current state where it is on path of decline. She said that there are powerful interests in the workers struggle in India and that it was good that there are lot of critical debates on Maruti struggle. She said she can not be very precise as she has is an outsider and has the role of international solidarity activist. Mithilesh of ‘Polemic’ conducted the programme which was started with a  revolutionary song "Paul Robson" by Nazim Hikmet.
