'The Left needs to go beyond the politics of reactive defencism against Fascist forces.' - Abhinav Sinha
The Third Seminar of 'Polemic' on 'Global Economic Crisis and the Resistible Rise of Fascism and Right-wing Politics' in Kalina Campus, Mumbai University
Polemic organised its third seminar on the subject ' Global Economic Crisis and the Resistible Rise of Fascism and Right-wing Politics' on March 13, 2015 in Mumbai University. A number of teachers, students and political activists participated in the seminar. Political activist and editor of workers' monthly 'Bigul', Abhinav Sinha, Dr. Rajan Padwal and trade union leader Shashikant Sonavane were the speakers. Dr. Rajan Padwal, a teacher of economics spoke on the dynamics Modi's rise to power and the socio-economic character of his voters. Consequently, Shashikant Sonavane from ICTU talked about the challenges posed by the Sangha Parivar and the need to wage a resolute struggle against its fascist politics.
Abhinav Sinha began his talk by discussing the recent events in India as well as other parts of the world which clearly demonstrate the rise of Right-wing politics and Fascism. The incidents like the assassination of comrade Govind Pansare, the controlled communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and other parts of the country, the hatred campaign led by the RSS and its allies to fan communal tensions throughout the country are alluding to the strategy of the Sangha Parivar; this strategy allows Modi to use big and hollow words about secularism on the one hand, while on the other, allow the Hindutva brigade to carry on its work unhindered.
